How to add details of an Inspection

About Inspections

Inspections are used to record observation information against fields. There are two types of inspection:

  • Field inspection — a note of something you wish to record against a field, for example pest damage, weed infestation, or drainage issues. Field inspections can include photos and a map location, and are available on both the web and the mobile app.

  • Soil sample inspection — used to record the results of soil sampling against a field, including nutrient analysis results. Soil sample inspections are available on the web only.

Inspections are specific to the season you are in.

Adding a new Inspection

  1. From the Inspections module, select + New Inspection.

  2. If you have more than one business, select the relevant business.

  3. Enter a name for the inspection.

  4. Select the inspection type — Field or Soil Sample.

  5. If required, select an inspector from your Personnel list.

  6. Click the tick to create the inspection.

Completing a field inspection

  1. Select the fields you want to include.

  2. For each field, select + Observation to enter your observation notes.

  3. You can also add a photo and a map location to record where on the field the observation was made.

  4. Click the tick to save.

Field inspection observations, including photos, location, severity, and any issues recorded are also visible from within the field record. Open a field and go to the Inspections tab to see all observations for that field, grouped by year.

Completing a soil sample inspection

  1. Select the fields you want to include.

  2. To add results to a field, click the corresponding pencil icon.

  3. Enter the analysis values for that field. Results are organised into four sections:

    • Macro Nutrients — Nitrogen (SMN), Phosphorus, Potassium, Magnesium, pH

    • Micro Nutrients — Boron, Calcium, Cobalt, Copper, Iron, Iodine, Manganese, Molybdenum, Sodium, Sulphur, Zinc

    • Soil Properties — Organic Matter, Sand, Silt, Clay, CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity)

    • PCN — Eggs (per gram), Total Cysts (per 100g)

  4. For Phosphorus, Potassium, and Magnesium, you can enter either a raw value or an index. Use the Enter Index toggle to switch between the two.

  5. Use the Previous and Next arrow buttons to move between fields without closing the form.

  6. Click the tick to save.

💡No individual nutrient value is required — you only need to enter the results you have available. If you enter values for any two of Sand, Silt, and Clay, the third will be calculated automatically, and all three must add up to 100%.

Viewing inspections

Field inspections are visible in the Inspections module and from within each field record under the Inspections tab.

Soil sample inspections are also visible in the Fields module. Open a field record and go to the Sampling tab to see all soil sample results recorded for that field. The tab is only visible if soil sample data has been entered for the field.

Soil sample results appear in the Nutrient Summary report, which lists soil sampling entered against a field alongside nitrogen fertiliser and organic manure applications.

Inspections can also be seen in the Field Audit Report, should you choose to include inspections.

Soil sample results and nutrient planning

When you create a Nutrient Management Plan (NMP) for a field, TELUS Crop Management uses the most recent soil sample results for that field to inform the nutrient calculations.

This applies whether the field has been split or merged since the sample was taken, the platform will use the best available results regardless of how the field is currently structured.
