Field Inspections in the Mobile App

Written by Cheryl Evans

You can now create field inspections directly from the TELUS Crop Management mobile app, not just view ones already recorded. This means you can capture inspection details while out in the field, even without a signal and have them sync back automatically once you're connected again.

What you can do

  • Create a new field inspection and select the field(s) it relates to

  • Record observations, including issues/pests/diseases, a severity rating, and free-text notes

  • Attach a photo to an observation

  • Have a location automatically captured for each observation

  • View field inspections that have already been recorded, for the current season or the previous season

  • Work offline, inspections are saved on your device and sync automatically once you're back online

Creating a field inspection

  1. On the Inspections screen, make sure you're on the In Progress tab, then tap the + button.

  2. This opens Create Inspection (step 1 of 2). Enter the inspection details and tap Continue.

  3. You'll move to Select a Field (step 2 of 2). Tap the field you want to inspect.

  4. Add one or more observations to the field. For each observation you can record:

    • The issue, pest, or disease observed

    • A severity rating

    • Notes

    • A photo

  5. Save the inspection. If you're offline, it's stored on your device as a draft and automatically queued to sync once you're back online.

About observation locations: you don't need to set a location manually. If you attach a photo, the app will use the location the photo was taken at where available; otherwise it records your device's current location automatically when you add details to an observation.

Viewing field inspections

  • On the Inspections screen, make sure you're on the Done tab, you will then see a list of field inspections recorded for the current season.

  • Switch to the previous season to view historical inspections.

  • Inspections you've already loaded onto your device can still be viewed while you're offline.

Things to know

  • Once an inspection has been submitted, it can't currently be edited or deleted from the mobile app, only unsaved drafts can be changed or removed on your device. If a correction to a submitted inspection is needed, this can currently be done from the web platform.

  • Soil sample inspections (used to record nutrient analysis from soil sampling) aren't available on mobile yet, these remain web-only for now.

  • If a draft inspection fails to sync, you'll see a sync error against that draft so you know to check it.
