Chemical Checking Audit Service

Written by Andrew Wolff

Overview

The Chemical Checking Audit Service is a Premium feature in TELUS Crop Management that verifies the pesticide applications in your planned and completed jobs against UK pesticide legislation. It performs 15 separate compliance checks against the TELUS label database and returns a clear pass, fail, or multi-approval result for each product on the job.

Using the audit service helps you:

  • Confirm that application rates, timings, and harvest intervals comply with legal requirements

  • Identify which fields and products have compliance issues before work begins

  • Meet assurance scheme and regulatory obligations with confidence

Who can use this? The Chemical Checking Audit Service is available to Premium licence users only. It is not available on Standard or Advanced plans.

Before You Begin

The following conditions must be met for the Audit tab to appear on a job:

  1. You must be on a Premium account. The Audit tab is only visible to users with an Advanced licence.

  2. The job must include at least one pesticide product. Only jobs containing one or more of the following product types will show the Audit tab:

    • Fungicide

    • Growth Regulator

    • Herbicide

    • Insecticide

    • Molluscicide

    • Other Pesticide

  3. A Target Date must be set on the job. Without a target date, the audit service cannot complete its verification. You can add a Target Date on the Job Summary tab.

Note: Fertilisers, seeds, and other non-pesticide inputs are not subject to chemical checking and will not trigger the Audit tab.

Where to Find the Audit Tab

The Audit tab appears as the last tab in the job workflow, after:

Planning a new job (Draft / Issued): Job Summary → Select Fields → Select Products → Select Equipment → Review Job → Audit

Viewing a completed job record: Work Order → Time & Observation → Products → HSE Checklist → Audit

Jobs can be audited at the draft, issued, and completed stages of the workflow.

Running the Audit

  1. Open the job you want to audit.

  2. Navigate to the Audit tab (the final tab in the job).

  3. If no audit has been run yet, you will see the message: "No audit check has been run on this job. Click the Audit Job button to verify this application for compliance with pesticide legislation."

  4. Click the Audit Job button.

  5. The system checks all eligible pesticide products on the job against the TELUS label database.

  6. Your result will be one of three outcomes:

Understanding Your Results

✅ Pass

All compliance checks were completed with no issues identified. You will see the message: "The audit checks have found no reason to fail."

Your application is verified against current UK pesticide legislation for the products, rates, timings, and fields on this job.

❌ Fail

One or more products did not pass the compliance checks. The audit service will display:

  • Which fields were affected

  • The specific reason(s) for non-compliance (for example: the crop approval is expired, the product is not approved for the target crop, or the approval does not match the field)

  • Any advisory warnings or comments

Review each failure in detail and make the necessary corrections to the job before proceeding.

⚠️ Multiple Approvals (Multi-Approval)

Some products have regulatory approval for use at multiple growth stages, often with different maximum application rates. When this occurs, the audit service requires you to select a specific growth stage before it can complete the verification.

For each affected product, you will be shown:

  • The crop group and application method

  • The available growth stages and their application stage descriptions

  • The maximum application rate and harvest interval for each option

  • The approval expiry date

Select the appropriate growth stage to confirm the approval, then re-run the audit. Once a valid growth stage has been selected, the audit will return either a pass or fail result.

Important: Audit Results Are Invalidated by Edits

If you edit a job after running an audit, the previous audit results are automatically cleared and you must re-run the audit. Actions that invalidate audit results include:

  • Adding or removing products

  • Changing the fields on the job

  • Updating application quantities

  • Modifying time and observation records

  • Splitting a job

When this happens, you will see the following message: "Audit checking data is no longer valid since job edits have been made. Please re-audit your job."

Always re-run the audit after making any changes to ensure your results are current.

What the Audit Checks

The audit performs 15 separate compliance checks against the TELUS label database, which is sourced from UK regulatory data.

Checks cover areas including (general agricultural knowledge — the individual check names are not published in this Help Centre):

  • Whether the product is approved for the target crop

  • Whether application rates are within legal maximums

  • Whether harvest intervals are respected

  • Whether the product approval is still current (not expired)

  • Whether the correct crop approval matches the field

Troubleshooting

Issue

What to do

The Audit tab is not visible on my job

Check that: (1) you are on a Premium account; (2) the job contains at least one pesticide product type listed above; (3) a Target Date has been entered on the Job Summary tab

The Audit Job button is not appearing

Add a Target Date to the job on the Job Summary tab

My audit results disappeared

You or another user has edited or split the job. Navigate to the Audit tab and re-run the audit

The audit returned an error about an expired product

One or more products on the job has been withdrawn from the pesticide database. Remove or replace the affected product and re-run the audit

The audit service is unavailable

The external checking service may be temporarily offline. Try again shortly, or contact TELUS support if the issue persists

A product has no match in the checking database

If a product cannot be matched to the checking service, the audit cannot complete for that product. Contact TELUS support for assistance
